North West River is located in central Labrador 33kms away from Happy Valley Goose Bay, with a population of 553. It was founded in 1743 when Louis Fornel established a year round trading post in present day North West. The Hudson Bay Company established a trading post there in 1836, which brought in another movement of European settlers. North West River hosts an annual Beach Fest, located at Lester Burry Memorial Park also known as the Waterfront, where you will find the Trappers Monument, an outdoor stage and the board walk.
